Another Big Move

I’ve been really quiet since my rebirth and that’s because we have big news to share!

Most know the story but for some of you who are new here, I’m from NY. No…not NYC…the state of NY. Specifically, Upstate (the better part of NY altogether!) The only thing NYC has to do with upstate is the atrociously high taxes it causes us! Toblerone and I met there actually. It holds a very special place in our hearts and of course our friends and most of my family is there.

I try to think back about when I first decided to follow him to Germany and I must have been drunk. I’m surprised I went at the end of the day. That was a major risk and I think my little 25yr old brain didn’t have ANY idea of what I was getting into. Somehow I thought, “I’ll just move back home if I don’t like it!” The reality is, I can’t just go home when my “home” (Harley and Tobes) wouldn’t be coming with me. It was more complicated than I thought.

I went to Germany with a huge carry on bag of German cuisine cookbooks (seriously) very unsure of what my future would hold and after 4 years it giving it the old college try, we decided moving back to the states was best for us. Tobes got a job that shipped us over to Michigan and although it was the US, it still was 9+ hours away. So I went from a 9+ hour flight to an equally as long of a drive. Not sure it was a win.

Every time that we did make it back to NY we always talked about how our hearts were warm and we felt relaxed. Much of that has to do with the atmosphere my mom’s house presents and also because of the friendships we have there. We have a tribe.

The goal was always to make it back closer to family and out of nowhere the stars aligned and here we are…going back to NY. We’ll be 20 minutes from everyone and we are bubbling over from excitement thinking about how different our life will be now. Not just for us but for the kids.

Ten years later…home. I’m no longer tribeless.

Finally holidays that will mean something. Traditions to continue. Birthday parties to have. It all finally makes sense. Finally.

We left a couple days before Thanksgiving and we’ve been shacking up with the prenatal units until we close on our new house after New Years. It’s been a surprisingly easy transition. The kids are adjusting nicely and Toblerone fits right in at his new job. All is well so far!!

Throwback Thursday – Vacation Style

Yes indeed…it is in fact August 1st already! Where has the time gone? Except, I am FREAKING OUT because we are that much closer to Christmas and you all know how much I LOVVVVVEEEE Christmas!!! Every week I put on my Christmas tunes and sing along as I clean the floors. It’s my thing, don’t judge. Just hop on the happy train and do it with me!

Anyways, starting next week, Toblerone has vacation for 3 weeks. Many companies have mandatory summer vacation. Three weeks is typical, sometimes two weeks. Ridiculous right? Like who made up this rule and didn’t pass it on to the Americans?! The hubs gets the mandatory summer vacation, also two weeks for Christmas into New Years and then he has his own vacation time of two weeks which he can use when he wants. Plus we have to add in all the holidays they have here…heavy catholic region = using God as a reason to party every week and have a day or five off! Its the truth, I’m sorry! I’m just jealous…I’m jealous for all my hard working family and friends back home who struggle to make their 10 days last throughout the year. End rant.

This week’s Throwback Thursday (yes I know I missed last weeks but you aren’t that sad, right?!) I’m going back to a vacation. Toblerone and I went on our first real deal vacation in April of 2010. Real deal as in flying together for the first time! We went to St. Pete’s beach in Florida, met some awesome people, and got rip roaring drunk most days! OH! and he dragged me to a Bon Jovi concert! Ha! But it was fun, I swear!

Another Year In Cape Cod

232323232-fp734;4-nu=3255-25;-266-WSNRCG=38-;92-73432-nu0mrj

Toblerone and I go to Cape Cod every year. We have ever since my 25th birthday (which seems like ages ago!!) Theres a magic about that place that I can’t explain but each time we go, we find something new and do some of our more “traditional” things. And by traditional, I mean…beating each other at mini golf. (He cheats, just saying!) But we try new restaurants and really try to soak up every piece of it that we can. Eventually, and possibly sooner than we expected, we will be buying a little vacation home there. CAN.NOT.WAIT. I’ll go overboard with interior decorating it with all things “ocean” inspired! Yeah, proud to be that person! Anywho…Here’s a look into all the things we saw and did!

First things first of course, I picked up some pretty awesome seashells! And we just so happened to run into two of our favorite people who happened to also be on the Cape at the same time! Got myself a dirty martini and some food poisoning on the first night but all is well. I’d eat the same thing again, no shame!

We just absolutely ADORE the little bed and breakfast that we stay at in Dennis, MA. It’s perfect, the people leave you alone and you can come and go as you please without worries. Plus, they always give us beers when we arrive. AMEN.

We stocked up on our concerts while we were there! Rolling Stones was crazy cool considering the dudes are as old as dirt and still run and jump around the stage like 15 year olds. But a very good show and a bucket list item checked off! BAM! And I got to go see Dave Matthews Band. For Toblerone,he got to really see how serious the fans of DMB take the pregaming. It’s not a joke and not to be messed with. People putting up flags, BBQing, playing beer pong, singing and playing music. Crazy cool.

We walked around Hyannis and had a great time as usual…sometimes a little too much ๐Ÿ™‚ We saw the JFK memorial, got some Icecream and walked around in the cute shops.

I got to have my ULTIMATE favorite thing ever which is called the Cod Reuben sandwich (with my martini of course) and I can STILL taste it. I have to have that every time I go now.
232323232-fp54398-nu=3255-25;-266-WSNRCG=38-;92633632-nu0mrj

And of course, our trip is never complete without visiting our favorite beach, Chatham, playing mini golf (I got a hole in one!), and eating LOBSTER!!!! We also stopped at a few antique stores and found some pretty cool stuff. I particularly liked this old bed and walking around a corner I got the crap scared out of me by these two dudes:

Throwback Thursday!!

It’s Throwback Thursday again!! And in two days I will be off to America…PRAISE THE LORD!!!!

This weeks throwback is a happy happy joy joy one! This is the hubs and I when we first started dating, circa 2009. We went to Cape Cod for my 25th birthday, which I almost didn’t make it out alive! This was his first time going and its exactly what started the tradition that we go there to vacation every year now! In fact, in the short two weeks that we will be home in the US, we will be there for a few days which is A-MAZ-ING. Seriously necessary!

Anywho, this is us at our favorite beach in Chatham, MA. Happy Throwback Thursday, ya’ll!

Extra! Extra! Read All About It!

Time for an update, friends. I’ve been busy here and haven’t had too much time for adventures at the moment but I decided it was time to fill you guys in on the happenings!

I’ve been busy with school (my German course) for one. It’s still annoying me and I’m pretty sure I’m over it. Too bad I have until July to really drill that idea into stone. Am I learning something new? I don’t know. I’m learning things here and there. I would say that I’m speaking way more German (and grammatically correct) than I was in March. I’m still the teacher’s pet and I plan to keep it that way! Maybe she’ll let me out early! No? I find it weird that now I can answer the phone and have conversations with people in German and 8 months ago I didn’t even know how to say “Hallo.” It’s crazy how much your brain is able to contain…especially after all the years of illegal drugs and gallons of alcohol and hours of headbanging. Only kidding….KIDDING!!!!

I’m also giving English lessons which is kind of fun! Getting paid to sit around and talk my own language. Not too shabby! However, it is a good lesson for me to learn the English grammar. Apparently, I missed all that in class. Does anyone else remember actually learning grammar in English class? I remember being forced to read books like The Great Gatsby or Catcher In The Rye. Thank you to all the book summaries online. Never read those books. (Sorry to all my teachers…and parents!) Anywho, I hope to have more students soon! I love that I’m participating in the greater good of German culture. Everyone should learn a second language! It’s fun!

I’m still on the GM diet (day 3!) A fruits and vegetables day and I’m not feeling so hungry anymore. I’m surviving. Am I seeing any results? not too much yet. Hopefully once day 7 comes around I’ll be a whole new person! ๐Ÿ™‚ Keep your fingers crossed for me! Tomorrow is only bananas and milk day…BLAH!

Only nine more days until I’m back in the great old USA and I couldn’t be happier about it. In fact, I’m not sure I’ll come home. I’m thinking of skipping the whole “get back on the plane” thing and just stick around for a bit. Lately, I’ve been remembering the little things I would do, like, go to target randomly or grab lunch at Panera Bread. Go to the bank…get a starbuck’s coffee, grab a martini (oh how I miss those), hug my family, go shopping, everything was great. I miss that. Can you tell I’m homesick? Anywho…I think it will be a great trip! Toblerone told me today that we’re going to the airport early to get drinks in the airport lounge since he’s a frequent flier or whatever. Fabu! And by the way…to all of you who I will be seeing, prepare your stance for I will be running and jumping on all of you!

Anywho, that’s the update as of yet and I’ll keep you all updated as I go along on my trip there! ๐Ÿ™‚ Can’t wait for winter to start and Christmas to come! ๐Ÿ™‚ Everyone done with their Christmas shopping? Speaking of shopping…I need ideas of what would be cool to bring back to the German studentsย I got to hang out with. I promised them I would bring them cook presents from America. Any ideas?!?! ๐Ÿ™‚

Here is a picture from Harley….he wanted me to post this. He thinks he looks pretty handsome here. And those are Toblerone’s legs that are making an appearance..not mine!
